Rangers finances questioned with £80,000 transfer budget dig on talkSPORT
Alan Brazil mocked Rangers on talkSPORT, claiming that they will only have £80,000 to spend in the January transfer window.
Brazil took a jab at the club’s financial condition during a talkSPORT interview with Ally McCoist (26 September, 9:55am), stating that he had seen a newspaper piece revealing their meager transfer budget.
The Gers’ off-field struggles and ongoing boardroom battles have raised concerns about their long-term spending capability, although Celtic’s finances are improving [Tom English, 24 September].
Brazil told McCoist, “Big bit in the paper today – they reckon you’ll have £80,000 to spend in January!”
Rangers finances are no laughing matter for Philippe Clement

Clement led much-needed overhaul of the Gers squad over the summer, jettisoning several senior players and making 11 new signings, but many of these were on loan deals or free transfers. Mohamed Diomande, Hamza Igamane,
Robin Propper and Nedim Bajrami were the only players who the club spent seven figures on, with a further £4million committed to make Oscar Cortes’ loan permanent [Daily Record, 4 June].
Despite these expenditures, the policy near the conclusion of the transfer window looked to be ‘one in, one out’, with Bajrami’s Deadline Day arrival arriving only after Todd Cantwell left for Blackburn.
It remains to be seen how much support Clement will be able to call upon from a boardroom currently in turmoil, but the Belgian won’t be holding his breath unless major changes occur upstairs.
