Another threat could come from down south for Rangers and Celtic.
England may be putting more money into Scottish football,

and this may come in the form of a Celtic and Rangers match.

The Premier League and elite clubs in the South have frequently partnered and made investments with the SPFL.

Hibs received further funding from Black Knight Group, the ownership group of Bournemouth, last season,

while Hearts are currently negotiating a potential transfer with Brighton chairman Tony Bloom.

Burnley, an English Championship team, has a relationship with Dundee and has brought several players on loan to Dens Park. Rangers and Celtic are unmatched in terms of financial power,

but a new player may be about to enter the Scottish game to try and change that.

Matthew Benham, the owner of Brentford, is said by the Scotsman to be that powerbroker.

It is purported that the chairman of the Bees is “examining possible investment prospects located north of the border.”

Similar to Brighton’s Bloom, Benham’s riches originates from the gaming industry, and the two fell out over a “dispute over the use of a proprietary betting model” in the 2000s.

“Has a plan to move into Scottish football, which would undoubtedly shake things up even more while possibly giving Rangers and Celtic something to think about,”

the source continues, citing Benham’s estimated net worth of roughly £216.3 million.

According to someone who is aware of both owners’ involvement in football, “It will be for the same reasons as Tony.”

This season, Celtic is participating in the Champions League, and they will have more money to spare after selling Matt O’Riley to Bloom’s Brighton for a club record amount.

Rangers, who were operating under manager Philippe Clement’s sell to buy policy in the summer transfer window,

will be hoping for a strong run in the Europa League in order to capitalize on the funds available there.
