Under Regis Le Bris, the Ukrainian attacker has failed to establish a significant role

and is a strong contender for a winter transfer.

Although Sunderland’s 2024–25 Championship campaign is off to a great start,

striker Nazariy Rusyn hasn’t yet established himself as a regular member of Regis Le Bris’ squad.

The Black Cats are one of the teams leading the early pace in the Premier League promotion

battle because of their incredible play in the early part of the season.

While 19-year-old Eliezer Mayenda, a sensational striker,

has been leading the line like an experienced center-forward,

Romaine Mundle and Patrick Roberts have been terrorizing opponent full-backs on the flanks.

Rusyn has only made fleeting appearances off the bench due to the Spanish striker’s form,

and the 25-year-old has also been an unused replacement on many occasions.

Is the Ukrainian a strong contender to leave Wearside on a loan in January?

Football League World conducts research.

FLW’s Sunderland fan pundit, Eddy Bamber, believes that depending on what league

Sunderland find themselves in come the start of next season, it will likely define

if Rusyn remains with the Black Cats beyond 2025.

Bamber stated, “I was a little critical of Rusyn when you last asked me about him.

Although he hasn’t performed too poorly in his subsequent appearances,

Rusyn will once more fall in the hierarchy if Aaron Connolly enters the game.

In order to give him some playing time, it would therefore be wiser to send him out on loan in January.

The team can then review in the summer and determine whether he might play a bigger role

the following year. The fact is—and I can’t believe I’m about to say this—the team

might play in the Premier League the next season. He would then be sold at that point.

We’ll have to wait and see. He could have a shot if we’re still in the championship

the following season. However, I believe he will fall too far down the hierarchy this year.”

When Rusyn signed a four-year deal last summer with the possibility of a further 12-month

extension, there was clearly a lot of belief that he might play a major role in Sunderland’s future.

Therefore, the fact that he is talking about leaving the team less than a year later indicates

that the transfer hasn’t gone as well as many had planned.

Moving from Ukrainian football to a league as rigorous as the Championship is a huge test

for any player, but this doesn’t appear to be a case of the striker not bedding in on Wearside.

Instead, the striker hasn’t been able to find a run of form and is destined to be a minor part

of Le Bris’ squad this season, despite a few glimpses of his quality and potential.

Rusyn needs to be playing regular games, whether it’s in English football or elsewhere,

as he will turn 26 by the time the January transfer window opens. If not,

he runs the risk of seeing his best years as a player limited to cameos as a substitute.
