James Maddison thinks that his goal against Brentford will’shut up’ some of his critics, since he is pleased with his own efforts this season.

There were some fears and reservations about Maddison before the new season, as the offensive midfielder had gone completely off the

boil in the latter half of the previous season after returning from an injury layoff. Maddison put on one of his greatest games in a Spurs

shirt against the Bees, capping off an impressive performance with a well-taken goal.

Many questioned how the 27-year-old would handle at the start of the season after missing out on England’s Euros selection.

The former Leicester City player has undoubtedly provided a full response, recalling his lively and creative best at the start of the new season.

Maddison put on one of his greatest games in a Spurs shirt against the Bees, capping off an impressive performance with a well-taken

goal. The midfielder pointed out that offensive players are often overlooked unless they score. The Tottenham player stated after the 3-1

victory over Brentford (via The Metro): “The team is always the most important.” I would have

been satisfied with my performance and the way I played regardless of whether I scored the goal. It clearly benefited us in the game

because we got that small cushion.”It effectively silences a few folks in the background who believe that goals and assists are more

important than what they actually do. I am an offensive player who has always scored goals and provided assists; it is my job.

“So when you’re not doing that, even if you feel like you’re playing well personally and helping the team, and the coach is happy with what

you’re doing, there are some games where I feel like I’m playing really well in the build-up and helping the team progress but you don’t get

a goal or assist to show for it.

“And then people start questioning the figures, so you have to take the outside noise with a grain of salt, but on the other hand, I enjoy

scoring goals, so it was a good feeling.

“I think I had to blow the dust off the old darts celebration because it has been a little while, but it felt so good in front of the South Stand to score.”
