£18 million Aston Villa star could be sidelined with McGinn through injury
Aston Villa may be without another player due to injury, as midfielder John McGinn was forced off during their 3-1 win over Wolves on
Saturday. Unai Emery was pleased on the touchline as his team continued their impressive start to the season. Wolves threatened the
home side after striker Matheus Cunha gave them a surprise lead. It wasn’t all easy, with Gary O’Neil’s team maintaining the lead for
much of the game.
It took until the final 15 minutes for Villa to equalise, thanks to star frontman Ollie Watkins, who sent Emery’s team on their path to a
Premier League triumph. Just minutes into extra time, defender Ezri Konsa put them ahead, and attacker Jhon Duran followed suit,
maintaining his strong start to 2024/2025. The Colombian scored Villa’s third goal in the 94th minute, securing all three points on Derby
Day, but Emery’s response was mixed.
“We want to win matches easier than we did,” Emery remarked after Villa’s victory over Wolves.
“We are showing how difficult it is to win in the Premier League – last week against Everton.”We were hurting in the first half, but the
second half was quite different. I am ecstatic because we won. It was critical that we adjusted our mindset and played to win in the second
half.”
The afternoon’s only serious downside was midfielder John McGinn’s injury. The 29-year-old has started all five Premier League games so
far and is an important cog in Emery’s midfield, having scored six goals and provided four assists in 35 top-flight appearances last season.
