The CEO of Hearts has claimed that there was “never any hint” of Rangers interest in Lawrence Shankland due to the Jambos’ astonishing valuation of the striker.
Rangers were frequently reported as potential Shankland suitors during the January transfer window,
with Hearts offering the boyhood bluenose a contract to deter prospective purchasers.
However, Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay claimed that the Edinburgh club’s astounding valuation of the striker had already accomplished this.
McKinlay claims that signing Lawrence Shankland would require a Scottish record transfer for Rangers,
or anyone else for that matter, and believes the valuation put off bidders.

The most expensive move between two Scottish clubs is Celtic’s £4.5 million purchase of Scott Brown from Hibs in 2007,
therefore Rangers would have to pay more than that to sign Lawrence Shankland.
Given that the Scotland international is 28 years old and enters the final year of his contract in the summer,
the fee will be drastically reduced in six months.
According to McKinlay, the Lawrence Shankland assessment is predicated on what Hearts stand to lose if they do not finish third in the Scottish Premiership and qualify for the European group stage.
“I can only speak for myself, but I didn’t believe we would get a bid from anyone,
” McKinlay remarked at the inauguration of Hearts’ Tynecastle Park Hotel, as quoted by the Scotsman.
“Now, I’m not sure if that’s because we stated it would require an exceptional price –
I have no idea – but you still get to transfer deadline day and wonder if someone will step in with even a dumb bid or throw something in. But absolutely nothing.
“There were some calculations – and those numbers, without getting into detail,
were based on what would happen if we sold Lawrence and did not get group-stage football.
“And we know exactly how much that is worth, so it has to be in that ballpark or more to make sense.
“That’s not to say we wouldn’t have finished third without Lawrence, but it would have been a significant risk.
