There will be plenty of football action this weekend,

from neighborly clashes throughout Europe to early championship race showdowns.

Here are our five must-watch games:

This weekend’s Championship match between North East rivals Sunderland and Middlesbrough

will see both teams try to advance to the Premier League, the promised land.

After being demoted together in 2016–17, neither team has returned to the top tier.

Under new manager Régis Le Bris, Sunderland has had an outstanding start

and is currently in the automatic promotion spots. Middlesbrough, led by Michael Carrick,

is a point outside the play-offs and is hoping to gain momentum.

This weekend marks the return of the Women’s Super League,

and the inaugural weekend promises to be explosive. In a pivotal early-season encounter,

Manchester City, the runners-up from the previous campaign,

will travel to take on an Arsenal team that placed third last time out.

A further intriguing aspect of the matchup is that City’s Vivianne Miedema is scheduled

to make her league debut against her previous team. The all-time WSL top scorer moved from North London

to Manchester during the summer, and she made her Champions League debut midweek against Paris FC.

Serie A’s heavyweight match between Juventus and Napoli is taking place this weekend.
Under the guidance of former Juventus manager Antonio Conte, the latter have triumphed three times
in a row after suffering a defeat the first weekend.

In contrast, Juventus has performed well in their first four games under Thiago Motta,

going undefeated and conceding just one goal. Starting as modest favorites,

the Turin team also looked good in the Champions League midweek.

However, Conte will want to show that he still has enough of energy

to spare against one of the top emerging coaches in Serie A.

This weekend, Inter Milan and AC Milan will square off in their shared San Siro cauldron

in the Derby della Madonnina. The top two teams from the previous season square off on Sunday nigh

t in a highly anticipated match. ChampionsMilan has had a rough start to the season and lost their

European debut to Liverpool, while Inter, who are undefeated in Serie A,

battled to a goalless draw with Manchester City in the middle of the week.

Even the suggestion that Paulo Fonseca, who was only recruited in the summer,

would be leaving Milan early has been made.

Inter has defeated their fiercest rivals 5-1 in 2023–2024,

and they have won the previous six games across all competitions.

Manchester City vs Arsenal (Premier League)

This weekend’s Premier League matchup between Manchester City and Arsenal pits the top two teams

from the last two seasons against one another.

In recent seasons, Arsenal has become the Citizens’ closest rival,

but they haven’t been able to break Pep Guardiola’s team’s grasp on the division.

Have the Gunners progressed enough to unseat the winners? Or are City still the club to beat,

driven by goals from Erling Haaland and sitting atop the division with the most points?
