Régis Le Bris has confirmed that Dan Ballard could be available to play against Middlesbrough on Saturday, which is a huge positive for Sunderland.

Ballard left Home Park on crutches after suffering an injury late in the 3-2 loss to Plymouth Argyle, but this week’s examinations revealed no serious injuries. During his news conference prior to the game on Thursday afternoon, Le Bris stated that Ballard “should be OK” to play this weekend at the Stadium of Light.

Le Bris did confirm that midfielder Alan Browne will miss the game this weekend due to a knee injury, but the prognosis is again better

than initially thought. Browne attended a fan Q&A in midweek with his knee in a brace, but the head coach confirmed that he should only be absent for a week. That means he could be in contention to face Watford next weekend, and if not then certainly shortly after that.

Salis Abdul Samed is still recovering from a slight injury, thus he won’t be able to make his club debut this coming weekend. Le Bris affirmed that by the end of the following week, the midfield player ought to be able to resume full training.
