Celtic mascot left deafened in amazing Champions League reaction as smirking Kasper Schmeichel laps up atmosphere

The fans knew before a ball was kicked that it was going to be a huge night for Celtic as they made their way back to the top table of Europe.

And one mascot covered his ears as the Champions League anthem played at Celtic Park, welcoming Brendan Rodgers’ team and Slovan Bratislava, while the players of the Houston Rockets savored the commotion their supporters had caused.

After the opening whistle blew in Glasgow’s east end, things only got better as the league-leading Scottish Premiership squad easily defeated the Slovakian champions to kick off their league phase campaign.

Celtic’s lead was increased early in the second half by a goal from Kyogo, but Liam Scales had already put the team ahead.

For the visitors, things took a turn for the worse when Arne Engels scored from the penalty spot.

Kevin Wimmer’s incredible strike gave Slovan their first goal under the new format, and Daizen Maeda added a fourth before replacement Adam Idah sealed the victory with a late fifth.

Before the act started, however, astute spectators saw one mascot who was rendered deaf by the audience.

One young person was seen covering his ears prior to kickoff, even though the sheer volume of the game was too loud to be seen on the TV displays.

The players relished the occasion as well. Kasper Schmeichel was seen grinning as the camera went around the line-up, while Kyogo Furuhashi seemed to remark “wow” to himself prior to the amazing exhibition.
