Southampton have announced the officiating team for their crucial match against Ipswich Town at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Russell Martin understands the importance of the game against fellow newly promoted Ipswich, with Southampton looking for their first

league win of the season.

Southampton have yet to earn a Premier League point in four games, while Ipswich have two points after drawing their past two.

It is sure to be a tightly contested match at St Mary’s, with the pressure of the game, there is the potential for the game to spill over,

therefore it will take a strong referee to maintain control.

The Premier League has confirmed that Sam Allison will be the man in the middle on Saturday, with Scott Ledger and Mat Wilkes as his

assistants.

Anthony Taylor has been named as the fourth official, with Jarred Gilled and James Mainwaring serving as VARs.

Allison is likely to be remembered by Saints fans for controversially sending off West Brom manager Carlos Corberan early in

Southampton’s 2-0 victory at The Hawthorns in February.

Corberan stopped the ball that was rolling towards him before it left the field of play and was then given his marching orders by Allison.

Speaking after the game, Martin said he was as perplexed as everyone else about the decision, saying: “It must be the rule that if you touch

the ball when it is on the pitch, you are sent off. If that is a rule, it is an absurd one.

“I was just angry because the ball hadn’t gone out and he had touched it.” I assumed we had a chance of getting it.

“I had no idea he was going to be sent out; that was not the objective at all. I’ve learnt a new rule, as has Carlos, regrettably.

“I have nothing but respect for Carlos. It’s absurd; he didn’t intend to stop the play. He assumed the ball had gone out. It’s a difficult one

for him.”
