Rangers board names the father of a former Celtic player Chairman following Dave King’s snub.

Dave King’s attempt to rejoin the Rangers as chairman is unlikely to succeed because the billionaire will encounter strong opposition from the board.

The Ibrox club needs a permanent replacement for John Bennett,

who announced his resignation on Saturday due to health concerns.

John Gilligan,

a former director,

has been named interim chairman; nevertheless,

King is eager to take over the role,

which he held from 2015 to 2020.

Although the 69-year-old has said he will not be making any more personal investments,

he thinks he may raise money from Saudi Arabia or the US to help the team and club do better.

Yet, Mail Sport is aware of how unlikely it is that he will be able to take on his prior position again because of doubts about his initial stewardship of the team.

Even though King appointed Steven Gerrard as manager in 2018 and the former captain of Liverpool won the championship in 2021,

the team lost eight figures frequently when he was in charge.

Additionally,

two costly legal cases that Sports Direct and Elite Sports Group brought and approved under King’s supervision have left Rangers with the financial burden.

The billionaire, who is located in South Africa and holds a 14 percent ownership in RIFC plc,

recently came out of hiding to criticize Douglas Park,

the guy who took over as chairman, for not supporting Gerrard following that championship victory.

It was the most recent jab in a protracted rivalry between him and the guys he teamed up with in 2015 to gain ownership of the team back from Mike Ashley.

King believes that circumstance reflects the dysfunctional nature of the club.

It is obvious that not everyone understands what is wrong, but there are many issues.

He went on,

“It is recruitment,

issues on the field,

and issues off the field.”

Something as basic as a stadium, perhaps.

It does not take a genius to figure out that,

in order to be open at Ibrox for extremely crucial European and Champions League qualifiers—where Ibrox is a tremendous advantage for Rangers—your project needs to start ten minutes after the club finishes its last game in May.

It has happened against stronger and larger teams.

Furthermore,

the fact that the project was launched while some steel was still in China merely betrays a lack of fundamental project management and management abilities.

“I am afraid that is what is going on right now in the club.”

“I believe that someone needs to intervene pretty soon.”

I believe the board will now have to determine what to do with my name added to the list.
