GOODNEWS! Dave King will be joining Rangers as soon as possible.

David King has told Jim White he is not yet set to return to Rangers despite being open to returning to Ibrox as chairman.

The former Gers chief has admitted he is willing to return to Glasgow and would be ready to help rebuild the Gers over the next two years after John Bennett stepped down from his role [Chris Jack, 15 September].

Although King has insisted that remains the case, he admits that no return is imminent at this stage despite wanting a decision to be made sooner rather than later as the club is “in crisis”.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday (16 September, 12:05) White said: “Can you bring us up to date right away now?

“Are you returning to the football club and are you going back in maybe on a short-term basis? What’s the situation, Dave?”

King replied: “The situation is certainly not that I am returning. What I’ve done is I’ve made myself available and the reason for that is, as much as it was unsurprising for me that John [Bennett] stepped down because I’ve been in fairly regular contact with him and I really do the impact that being the chairman of Rangers at this point of time has had on him and I just hope he’s well.

“I do know how tough it is to be chairman of Rangers at any time and particularly in this difficult situation. Having seen John step down, under normal circumstances, I’d expect someone from the board to have stepped up. “When I heard what the board had decided to do was go outside, headhunt and try and get a chairman and CEO, the job at Rangers is very, very different from trading a public company.

“Right now the club is in crisis, the extent of it I don’t know, only those inside do now. However, the operational issues within Rangers are a challenge.

“I thought if nobody is going to step up and we’re going to have to some external city type appointment, which I’m absolutely sure will not take the club forward. But as the leading shareholder perhaps I could step up for a period of time.

“I’ve made an announcement that I’m available to do that. I think something has to happen fairly quickly. The club lacks leadership in all aspects of the club.”

Will Dave King return to Rangers after John Bennett Ibrox exit?

King has been incredibly open about his desire to make the move back to Glasgow, but so far it isn’t yet obvious whether the powers at be at Ibrox would be at all interested in bringing him back.

The Light Blues do lack leadership at this moment in time, both off and on the field and some sort of restructure is required sooner rather than later so that Philippe Clement has some sort of support above him at the club.

Whether that is King, a different chairman or potentially even a new CEO instead, an appointment has to be made swiftly. The Gers are miles behind Celtic at this moment in time and they need someone in charge who can bridge that gap.

Hopefully, a decision will be taken by the club sooner rather than later so that there are people above Clement ready to make the difficult decisions and bring some sort of normality back to the blue half of Glasgow.

In other Rangers news, one BBC Sport pundit has made a “pivotal” Ibrox admission after recent developments at Glasgow.
