During the January transfer window, Philippe Clement was obliged to correct

a number of Michael Beale’s summer mistakes, pushing several Rangers duds out the door.

While Cyriel Dessers and Kieran Dowell have shown indications of improvement and

have been regulars in the squad when healthy,

the Gers have already parted ways with several of its players who have struggled to adjust to the Scottish game.

Sam Lammers was shown the Ibrox exit door on a temporary basis and

went on to join FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie for the rest of the season.

The Dutchman failed to adjust to the Premiership,

scoring only twice in 31 appearances across all competitions before

being released by Clement in the January transfer window.

However, he appears to have found his footing in Holland.

In Utrecht’s 4-2 victory over FC Volendam on Sunday (4 February),

the 26-year-old assisted but did not score while playing the full 90 minutes as the home side’s number nine.

That means Lammers has two assists in four Eredivisie appearances this season,

which matches his total from the first half of the season in Glasgow.

Over the course of 90 minutes, the Rangers loanee generated two chances for his teammates and made three passes into the final third.

He also got involved defensively, winning 100% of his attempted tackles and participating in seven duels.

Clement’s Lammers transfer request might fetch Rangers millions.

Although Lammers’ stay in the Netherlands is short,

Rangers are apparently willing to transfer the 26-year-old this summer,

given his sluggish start to life since arriving from Atalanta for £3 million under Beale’s direction. [Scottish Daily Mail, 11 January].

In January, it appeared difficult for the Gers to transfer the Dutchman permanently,

as no club would be willing to spend anywhere like the fee that

the Light Blues paid in the summer to bring him to Scotland,

especially after critics in Glasgow and elsewhere lambasted his performances.

However, if Lammers continues to improve during his loan stay,

Rangers may be able to secure a decent transfer fee for his services by the end of the season.

Hopefully, Clement’s January decision to loan out the Ibrox flop will bring the Gers millions of pounds.

Those in control at Ibrox will be hoping that the Dutchman maintains his standards for the remainder of the season.
