Celtic clean sheet sets a 118-year record for Kasper Schmeichel.
This afternoon, Celtic goalie Kasper Schmeichel tied a record that dates back 118 years. For the first time since 1906–07, a goalkeeper has not allowed a goal in their first five games. This was maintained by the Danish international.
At the start of the 1906 season, Tom Sinclair held the record. Actually, the Celtic goalkeeper was on loan from Rangers due to an injury he received at Ibrox on the goalposts.
When Brendan’s team travels to Perth to play St Johnstone in two weeks, Schmeichel will be hoping to improve on this record. Before then, the Celts want to eliminate Falkirk from the League Cup and win to kick off their Champions League campaign.
Since taking Joe Hart’s spot as the Celtic No. 1 this summer, Schmeichel has performed admirably. Since joining the team, the 37-year-old has produced several significant saves and exudes calmness.
The back four of Greg Taylor, Liam Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Alistair Johnston deserve recognition as well for their contributions to this accomplishment.
