LAKERS’ NEWS: Lakers’ most likely Darvin Ham replacement is now available.
LAKERS’ NEWS: Lakers’ most likely Darvin Ham replacement is now available.
Despite LeBron James and Anthony Davis having largely healthy seasons, the Los
Angeles Lakers are still destined to play in the Play-In Tournament.
Since there have been no injuries or Russell Westbrook to fall back on, head coach
Darvin Ham has been the center of attention.
Throughout the 2023–24 season, it has become evident that Ham may not be the
coach the Lakers had hoped to select.
The formerly well-liked assistant coach hasn’t improved as a head coach.
Compared to Ham, LeBron actually coaches this team more.
In light of this, Lakers supporters are already considering Ham’s possible
replacements for the upcoming campaign.
It goes without saying that the Lakers will start Ham for the remainder of the season,
but don’t be shocked if this is his final season.
And if that’s the case, the Lakers might already have their top candidate to take over
as head coach in lieu of Ham.
Juwan Howard, a former NBA all-star with ties to the Lakers, was sacked by the
Michigan Wolverines on Friday.
Juwan Howard could be a favorite to replace Darvin Ham as Lakers head coach
Juwan Howard wasn’t the most decorated head coach available for the purple and
gold, and his time at Michigan didn’t go quite as expected.
By no means is this post intended to be a defense of Howard or an appeal for the
team to get him on board.
Rather, it is important to note that Howard may become a favorite due to his
connections to the Lakers organization.
Rob Pelinka, president of basketball operations, attended Michigan and has
previously expressed some fondness for his former mater.
In addition to becoming Michigan’s coach, Howard was one of the Fab Five players
on the team.
In addition, Howard has really been courted by the Lakers in the past.
Howard was approached by the Lakers before to hiring Ham, but he turned them
down.
Now that Howard is unemployed, the Lakers’ interest will be warmly received by
Howard’s team.
Another city that has a fascination with appointing former players as head coaches is
Los Angeles.
Frank Vogel is the only one who does not have NBA playing experience among the
team’s previous four head coaches.
LeBron’s affection for Ty Lue suggests that he would also prefer to play for former NBA players.
Is it possible for the Lakers to surpass Howard? Indeed. Is he going to be better than
Ham? Most likely.
Nevertheless, if the Lakers decide to search for a new head coach, he has to be
regarded as an early favorite to land the position.
