Diego Carlos sustained a hamstring injury during Aston Villa’s 4-0 victory over Ajax

on Thursday, according to Unai Emery.

After tumbling with some discomfort in the 74th minute of the UEFA Europa

Conference League round of 16, the Brazilian center back was replaced.

Carlos’s precise layoff is uncertain, although he is anticipated to miss Sunday’s

Premier League trip to West Ham United.

While Clement Lenglet and Ezri Konsa are capable of filling in for him, Villa will be

hoping for some positive news regarding Carlos following his unfortunate string of

ailments sustained abroad.

“Diego Carlos experienced minor hamstring strain. “I’m not sure if it’s a lot or not,”

Emery said to Birmingham World on Thursday at the news conference following the

game.

Maybe he won’t be free on Sunday; we’ll check with him tomorrow, Friday.

We occasionally play with two or three center backs, thus Diego Carlos is crucial to

our success.

We always play as a four, but occasionally we have one player play a little wide

during the build-up as a three,” Emery went on.

Ollie Watkins left the pitch in the first half out of worry for the supporters, so Carlos

wasn’t the only player pulled off the field against Ajax due to injury.

After colliding with the goalkeeper of the visiting team, Diant Ramaj, the England

international was left holding his left knee.

After receiving treatment, Watkins played for a little while longer and scored the

game’s first goal, but he was forced to leave soon after.

However, Emery has subsequently clarified that the striker’s injury was only a cut,

which has relieved everyone’s concerns.

“We are unsure precisely. Sunday might work for him, but it’s just a cut. Regarding

Watkins, Emery stated, “We’ll wait and see tomorrow and on Saturday.
