Confirmed Rangers vs Benfica team news as Philippe Clement names Sterling replacement
This could just about be the most important Rangers team selection of Philippe Clement’s tenure so far.
The Gers boss has of course taken his team to Celtic Park and Real Betis, managing one result out of two, but there is
more jeopardy in tonight’s knockout clash with Benfica. They go into it level after gaining a decent draw away from
home and that gives them a great chance, but they will also have to guard against the quality the Portuguese possess.
The Belgian resisted the temptation to rest anyone following the game in Lisbon, going unchanged for the Scottish
Cup win over Hibs at the weekend. He won’t have that option this time with Dujon Sterling ruled out through injury
but Todd Cantwell and Ross McCausland are back in contention for a start.
Rangers starting XI: Butland, Tavernier, Goldson, Souttar, Ridvan, Lundstram, Diomande, Lawrence,
Wright, Silva, Dessers
Subs: McCrorie, Cantwell, Matondo, Roofe, Davies, Barisic, King, Raskin, McCausland, Yfeko, Fraser, McKinnon
Benfica starting XI: Trubin, Aursnes, Otamendi, Antonio Silva, Bah, Florentino, Joao Neves, Rafa Silva, Neres, Di Maria, Marcos Leonardo
Subs: Soares, Kukubo, Carreras, Morata, Cabral, Kokcu, Tengstedt, Joao Mario, Rollheiser, Araujo, Gouveia
