Rangers starting team named for Europa League last-16 clash vs Benfica

The starting lineup for Rangers’ matchup with Benfica in the Europa League last-16 second leg has been announced

by manager Philippe Clement.

The tie was tied 2-2 in Lisbon last week, and the Portuguese powerhouses go to Ibrox for the 5.45 p.m. kickoff.

Whoever wins the match advances to the quarterfinals, where they could face teams from the following round,

including Liverpool, AC Milan, AS Roma, and Bayer Leverkusen.

The game on Thursday night will go into extra time and a penalty shootout if there isn’t a winner after ninety minutes.

In the away match, Tom Lawrence and Dujon Sterling scored goals for Rangers, while Argentina’s World Cup-

winning player Angel Di Maria scored from the penalty spot for Benfica,

and an own goal by Connor Goldson sealed the draw.

Behind a defense that consists of James Tavernier, Goldson, John Souttar, and Ridvan Yilmaz,

Clement has selected Jack Butland in goal.

Alongside Mohamed Diomande, John Lundstram forms the base of a three-man midfield, with Lawrence providing

support for a front three consisting of Scott Wright, Fabio Silva, and Cyriel Dessers.

As a substitute, Todd Cantwell makes his comeback to the team, however Dujon Sterling will be out due to injury.
