News: Superstar is released by the Ravens.
News: Odell Beckham Jr. is released by the Ravens.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Ravens released veteran superstar
wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Wednesday night, giving him the freedom to find a new home.
According to Over the Cap, Beckham signed a one-year reported $15 million contract last offseason,
but void years prevented him from having a salary cap number in 2023 that would exceed $5 million.
According to reports, Beckham and the Ravens reworked
the contract in January to eliminate the vacant years and permit
a post-June 1 release designation that disburses the dead cap funds.
Last season, Beckham had 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns.
He was limited by injuries for a portion of the season,
but he made a number of huge catches and placed second on the team in receiving.
For some of the team’s younger receivers, including as first-round pick Zay Flowers,
he served as a seasoned mentor.
The 31-year-old Beckham stated his desire to play again after the season.
“To me, if there is anything I felt about myself – regardless of anybody’s opinion or anything
like that – is that I know that I can still play football,
and I know that I still have [stuff] in the tank,” Beckham stated.
At the Combine, Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta stated
that he and Beckham are still in communication, and Head Coach
John Harbaugh expressed his hope for a possible comeback.
“Odell is a really wonderful man. DeCosta exclaimed, “I adore Odell.”
“He’s become a great friend of mine and a friend to the Ravens,
and I think we’ll just kind of assess and see what happens over the next couple of weeks.”
