Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness has insisted that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is “on borrowed time” and might be fired this summer.

Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old, who was CEO at Aberdeen from 2000 to 2004,

previously worked at Everton and Aston Villa, and now runs a football consultancy that advises elite clubs, suggested Rodgers could be replaced within a year or two, even if he wins the Scottish Premiership this season.

Celtic trail Rangers by two points in the Scottish Premiership title race, despite defeating their Old Firm opponents twice this season.

Rodgers’ side was also eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage, earning four points out of a possible 18.

Wyness says, “It’s not a happy ship at Celtic.”

On Sunday (10 March), Football Insider stated that Celtic do not see the Northern Irishman as the club’s long-term manager.

Wyness stated on Football Insider’s Insider Track podcast: “I wouldn’t be surprised to see a change in management in the offseason. I’m not sure if Rodgers was the proper pick.

“This is not a cheerful ship.

“Failures appear to have occurred on the pitch. It appears that they have underperformed in certain critical games.

“If you are not first in Scotland, you are nowhere, and I believe the football side is where I would look for answers.

“I have no sympathy for Rodgers.” He’s an experienced manager who knew what he was getting into.

“That was part of the appeal for him.

“I believe he’s operating on borrowed time. After such a bad start, it will be extremely difficult to recover. Even if he wins the league, I believe he will leave within a year or two.
