One Player Saved the Warriors’ Legacy, According to Isaac Thomas
One Player Saved the Warriors’ Legacy, According to Isaac Thomas
The NBA success of the Golden State Warriors has been largely attributed to the extraordinary abilities of Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Stephen Curry.
They have made six Finals trips and won four NBA Championships since 2015.
Even though all three of them have been praised for the Warriors’ incredible run, Kevin Durant is a key member of the team’s modern-era legacy.
The significance of Durant’s contributions has decreased over time as a result of his contentious 2016 trade to the Warriors.
But according to The Volume, Isiah Thomas, the legendary Detroit Pistons player, just gave Durant his flowers for preserving the Warriors’ history.
“All of your legacies are different if Durant doesn’t come that summer and you guys are remembered as the 73-9 team,” Thomas remarked in an interview with Gree.
After the Warriors had the best record in NBA history, Durant was widely criticized for joining the team.
But the 73-9 Warriors’ 3-1 lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals cannot be forgotten.
Thomas stated that if Durant hadn’t joined the club, the careers of Curry, Thompson, and Green might have been quite different.
From 2017 to 2019, the Warriors won two titles and advanced to the NBA Finals.
The Warriors’ legacy would have been severely tarnished if they hadn’t gone on to win more titles following their loss to the Cavaliers.
Even though Durant was a key member of the Warriors during his time there, he hasn’t been able to secure an NBA Championship since.
However, in the years after Durant, the Warriors claimed yet another championship in 2022.
