Three Kansas City Men Are Accused of Trafficking in Illegal Firearms and Purchasing Straw in Connection with the Super Bowl Rally Mass Shooting Investigation

Missouri’s Kansas City A federal court has charged three individuals from Kansas City,

Missouri, with unlawful firearm trafficking and straw sales of firearms.

This stems from the investigation into

the mass shooting that occurred at Union Station on February 14, 2024,

during the celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.

According to U.S. Attorney Teresa Moore, ”

“The best way to combat gun violence is to stop the

trafficking of illegal firearms and stop straw buyers.

” At least two of the weapons found at the Union Station mass shooting site

had either been obtained unlawfully or were being trafficked.

In order to prevent criminals from obtaining weapons, we constantly

collaborate with our law enforcement partners to conduct investigations

and punishing individuals who purchase and sell lethal weapons unlawfully.

ATF Kansas City Field Division Special Agent in Charge Bernard Hansen stated,

“The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act has given ATF

additional tools needed to go after straw purchasers and firearms

traffickers who flood our streets with weapons

that pose a threat to every single person in Kansas City.”

“These arrests act as a warning to individuals who believe

they can buy guns on the black market or

traffic guns into our neighborhoods illegally.

The men and women of the ATF are steadfast in their resolve to vigorously

pursue those who traffic in weapons while also protecting the public.

The public is seriously endangered by the spread of illegal firearms,

yet law enforcement is robust and cohesive.

I appreciate all of our law enforcement partners, including

the U.S. Attorney’s Office, for their rigorous

labor and unwavering commitment to our objective of public safety.”

“Although the events of February 14th will always be very personal to us,

the work of our federal partners and KCPD

detectives is a testament to their service to Kansas City.

The mass shooting at Union Station resulted in one fatality and over twenty injuries

. Twelve people flashed firearms, and at least six of them fired,

according to court filings. The Kansas City, Missouri,

Police Department took evidence-worthy items such

as spent shot casings and multiple guns from the scene.
