Rabbi Matondo, a winger for Rangers, has been called up to the Wales team for the

next Euro 2024 play-offs.

The Path A play-off semi-final against Finland is scheduled for March 21.

Five days later, the winners will face Estonia or Poland at home to secure a spot in Germany.

Rob Page, the head coach of Wales, has announced a 28-man roster that includes the 23-year-old.

Despite having 11 Wales caps, Matondo hasn’t played for his nation since a June

2022 Nations League matchup with the Netherlands. Although he was called up in

September of last year, he did not play in the matches against Latvia and South

Korea.

After suffering a knee injury in a league victory over Motherwell, he missed the

October and November training camps.

He only recently joined the Rangers team again after missing three weeks due to a

different minor injury.

On Sunday, he made an appearance as a substitute in the team’s 2-0 Scottish Cup

victory over Hibs.

His most recent return to fitness coincided with Wales’ attempt to qualify for a third

straight European Championship and their fourth major event in five years, thus he

was able to rejoin the national team just in time.

However, Welshman and Rangers teammate Tom Lawrence has not been called up.

After getting back to full fitness, the 30-year-old has been playing well lately.

Last week, he opened the scoring in the Europa League last 16 first leg in Lisbon

against Benfica and again in the team’s recent victory against Kilmarnock.

Although Lawrence hasn’t played for his country since 2021, he still has time to make

an impression on the selection committee for Euro 2024 should Wales advance.
