Trabzonspor has signed Borna Barisic from Rangers as a replacement for Eren Elmalı, who is expected to pursue offers in France, according to Yunus Emre Sel.

The Turkish journalist for Sabah and Fotomac revealed on his YouTube channel on March 12 that the Turkish defender is being lined up to leave the Super Lig, with bids set to rise around the end of the season.

The club has already chosen to pursue Barisic in his place, as the Croatian’s contract at Ibrox expires in the summer, leaving him free to negotiate deals with European clubs.

Trabzonspor are hoping to add up to seven players before the season finishes, with the Rangers player being an early target, with talks already underway with his representation.

Rangers defender wanted to replace France-bound Trabzonspor player.

Since Barisic’s talks with Rangers have not had a positive result after being open for months [Football Scotland, 3 November], he appears to be leaving.

The Croatian’s delivery is as outstanding as anyone in the SPFL, but his defensive performance has frequently drawn criticism.

Now that he has lost his spot to Ridvan Yilmaz, the club can probably afford to let the 31-year-old leave, especially because Brazilian Jefte is expected to join at the conclusion of the season.

However, it will result in another senior player departing the club for free, following the departures of Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, and Filipe Helander this summer.

Left-back has been a concern since Calvin Bassey’s big-money departure two summers ago, with Yilmaz taking his time establishing himself at Ibrox.

Now that he has it, Barisic’s time in Glasgow appears to be coming to an end, albeit the 22-year-old has also been linked with a big-money move to Turkey on his own in January.
