The concept of Rangers fans standing in Croke Park to cheer their favorite club as they compete for European titles is almost impossible to fathom, yet it is a very real prospect.

This year’s Europa League final will be held at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, and romantic Liverpool fans are hoping that it will be the ideal setting to see out Jurgen Klopp in his farewell game, ideally with a trophy in his arms.

However, due to the immense attention around this goodbye tour that Klopp has found himself on, and the growing momentum of some clubs with massive fanbases progressing in the competition, UEFA is becoming concerned about Dublin’s ability to host the final.

The event will take place on May 22 at the Aviva Stadium, which has a capacity of 51,700 people. Tickets range in price from £80 to £1,700.

If Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen both make the final, their current manager might face his possible replacement, Xabi Alonso.

Theodore Theodoridis, UEFA’s general secretary, stated on Tuesday that the Europa final has already been identified as a potential flashpoint this summer.

“Under certain conditions, because of the potential teams that could qualify, this might end up being the most challenging for us,” Theodoridis said in a statement.

“We know they will bring a number of fans without tickets, and there is also the question of potential public viewing locations.

“There are a few of combinations – I won’t give away the names, but you are bright enough to figure it out – that would be incredibly difficult to find ways to accommodate everyone who would be present for that game.

“We’ve already reserved Croke Park as a prospective public viewing location, but it might not be enough. We are already working on this with the local authorities and Football Supporters Europe.

“If we get to one of those scenarios, we will consult with the supporters of the clubs involved to determine the best option.

“The major issue we have currently is whether Croke Park is large enough – we believe we would need more options for public watching for those who will be in Dublin.

“It’s not an easy operation, and it is simply for a few of circumstances that would make it exceedingly complicated – especially with clubs who already have a significant fanbase on the island of Ireland.

“But we are working on it and will involve the fanbases as well. We have to see who gets to the semis and then we will start to work with them as well.”
