Celtic’s previous transfer window expired at the beginning of the month, but they have still been able to export players to other countries.

Alexandro Bernabei, a left-back, was loaned out to Brazilian top-flight club SC Internacional earlier this month after falling out of favour under Brendan Rodgers.

The Argentine defender failed to persuade Northern Ireland’s head coach that he was a better option than first-choice defender Greg Taylor, and has since moved to play regular football in Brazil.

Celtic’s head coach may not need to go into the free agency market, or go and recruit a permanent successor in the summer,

to take Bernabei’s place, however, since B team standout Mitchel Frame may appear the dream heir to that role.

Alexandro Bernabei’s Season in Numbers

The 23-year-old full-back, who was signed from Lanus in 2022 for a reputed £3.75 million,

appeared in eight Scottish Premiership games this season before returning to South America on loan.

Only three of those came as starters, indicating that Rodgers did not trust him to start games on a regular basis,

and he did not impress in those appearances.

His poor play outside of possession made him a defensive liability for the Hoops.

Over the course of eight matches, he lost 53% of his duels, including 67% of his aerial confrontations, and was dribbled past 0.6 times.

The left-footed lightweight also failed to generate a single ‘big chance’ for his teammate or score a goal in the league this season,

indicating that he did not provide quality on or off the ball for the Scottish champions.

Rodgers might potentially find a perfect alternative for the Argentine full-back by giving outstanding B team player Frame more first-team minutes.

Why Mitchel Frame Could Replace Alexandro Bernabei.

The 18-year-old dynamo, who turned 18 in January, has been a regular starter for Celtic B this season, making 16 Lowland League games.

Frame, formerly characterized as a “top” prospect by journalist Fabrizio Romano,

is a highly-rated young whiz who was supposedly coveted by Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace,

and Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2022, with all three clubs offering him contracts to join.

Celtic managed to maintain hold of the juvenile defender, and as shown in the table above,

he made his Champions League debut for the Hoops this season and won 67% of his duels,

implying that the Scottish star may offer more physicality than the Argentine dud.

That is his sole senior appearance for the club thus far,

and Bernabei’s loan exit may open the door to more opportunities with Rodgers’ team between now and the conclusion of the season.

The Northern Irish manager does not have any other natural left-back options to compete with Taylor and must now give Frame an opportunity in the Premiership following his impressive Champions League performance.

He could then find a perfect successor for Bernabei,

as the 18-year-old B team star would come through the academy without costing the Hoops anything in transfer fees.
