Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has stirred the pot ahead of the new La Liga season by suggesting that arch-rivals Real Madrid are “under pressure” to discover a player who can match the talent and influence of 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal. Speaking to Catalan media, the Polish forward praised the youngster’s meteoric rise, claiming his presence has changed the dynamic of Spanish football.
Lewandowski, known for his candid views, said Yamal’s breakthrough has not only energised Barcelona’s attack but also raised the bar for the league as a whole. “Lamine isn’t just the future — he’s the present. When a player like that emerges, it forces everyone else to respond. I can imagine the pressure in Madrid to find someone who can do what he does,” he remarked.
The Barcelona captain went on to highlight Yamal’s combination of technical skill, football intelligence, and composure, traits he believes are rare in players so young. “He plays with the mentality of someone who’s been in the game for 10 years. You don’t see that every day. Real Madrid have incredible players, but finding a prodigy like this is another story entirely,” Lewandowski added.
His comments are likely to fuel the already fierce rivalry between the two clubs, especially as both sides prepare for a season where small margins could determine the title. With Barcelona banking on their youth revolution and Madrid investing heavily in proven stars, the race for supremacy looks set to intensify.
For Lewandowski, however, the focus remains on nurturing Yamal’s growth rather than worrying about Madrid’s recruitment. “We just need to protect him, guide him, and let him enjoy his football. If he stays on this path, we won’t just be talking about one of the best in Spain — we’ll be talking about one of the best in the world,” he concluded.
