Leeds United make shock move for £12M Liverpool star
Leeds United lost two players over the weekend, and are expected to be in the transfer market this week. The Whites have now completed their pre-season tour and will be in action against Everton in the Premier League on Monday.
Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt both completed loan moves away from Leeds this weekend. Joseph joined Mallorca and Gelhardt secured a loan move back to Hull City. These exits, coupled up with the fact that Patrick Bamford is not in the plans for this season means Leeds lack depth up top.
As it stands, Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe are the only options at center forward. Leeds are expected to bring in a new striker, with the club working to complete a deal before the end of the transfer window.
Leeds United and Burnley chase Josh Sargent
Norwich City star Josh Sargent is once again on the radar of Leeds United. According to TEAMtalk, the Whites are keen on a move for the striker this summer. Burnley will rival them, even after the Clarets completed a deal for Armando Broja.
The report suggests that both clubs have made initial contact over a move. However, Leeds and Burnley are far off Norwich’s valuation of the player. The Canaries will use Wolfsburg’s failed £21million move for Sargent as their base price.
Striker open to exit after failed move
The Bundesliga side were so close to agreeing a deal with the American striker. A fee had been agreed with personal terms, but Sargent chose to close the deal off at the last minute. It has now been revealed that he wants to stay in England.
Norwich City boss Liam Manning has already accepted that the club is powerless to keep Sargent if he wants to leave the club this summer. The striker opened his account this season in the opening day loss to Milwall.
Sargent is not an upgrade on the current options
If Leeds are about to spend in excess of £20million on Josh Sargent, then they might as well keep their money. The American is not the level of quality the club need in the Premier League. Outside that, he is too similar to Joel Piroe, and spending more money would be unnecessary as the club have a similar profile of player.
A striker the quality of Rodrigo Muniz is what Leeds should be targeting at this point of the transfer window.
