Clubs across Europe willing to compete for Leicester City star following game-changing performance

During Leicester City’s opening day victory against Sheffield Wednesday, Harry Winks once again showed his quality. Despite starting on the bench, the midfielder made a major impact, despite struggling in the Premier League. Winks has always been a standout when his side dominates possession, and that is still true now. With another Championship term on the horizon, could the 29-year-old leave?

Harry Winks: Target For Top Sides

As reported by Mike McGrath, Valencia are the front-runners in the race for Winks. Carlos Corberán took charge of the Spanish side back in December 2024, and miraculously guided them to a 12th-place finish. His time at West Bromwich Albion will certainly be a factor in the interest, as a 94th-minute goal from Winks stole a point away from his side two seasons ago.

In addition to this, Fiorentina are also looking at the midfielder, whilst Brentford are long-term admirers. With just a year left on his contract, and back-to-back appearances off the bench, Winks may favour a move away from the King Power. Furthermore, constant issues between him and the manager clearly suggest he could be an issue in the dressing room, which could also be a determining factor.

The departure of Winks would mark City’s fourth of the window. Conor Coady, Wilfred Ndidi and Mads Hermansen all departed before the season opener, whilst Bilal El Khannouss remains a target for several clubs.

How Does This Affect Leicester City

Losing a player of this quality so late in the window could be detrimental to the club’s season. Since joining in 2023, the 29-year-old has been key to the way City’s managers want to play as under Enzo Maresca, he became the first player to reach 2500 passes at 90% accuracy in Championship history. Maresca even described the success as impossible without Winks’ contributions as the deep-lying playmaker.

Although Marti Cifuentes didn’t start the midfielder in the recent victory, his performance in the second half was a class above. Against the visitors’ low block, he managed to break the lines on several occasions and helped the side become more progressive. The quality shown compared to Oliver Skipp was evident, and following Ndidi’s recent exit, retaining midfield options is key.
