‘We know this will be a challenge’ – Stockport boss looks ahead to Wycombe clash

Stockport County manager Dave Challinor has described his side’s upcoming league encounter with Wycombe Wanderers as a ‘challenge’.

The Greater Manchester team will travel down to Adams Park on August 9, just three months after the two sides last met on the final day of the previous season.

County defeated the Chairboys 3-1 in May as they both secured a place in the play-offs, before they were each eliminated by Leyton Orient and Charlton Athletic, respectively.

The clash will also be Wycombe’s first at home this season, on which they have put down a new pitch, as well as making changes to the dugouts and improving the seating areas in certain areas of the stadium.

Speaking to the club’s media, Challinor was asked if Wanderers should have rescued a point in their opening day 2-1 away loss against Bradford City last weekend.

Two goals in the opening 13 minutes from Antoni Sarcevic and Bobby Pointon put the Bantams ahead, before Dan Udoh pulled one back midway through the second half.

He said: “Yeah, they should, especially with the chances that they had in the second half, as they were miles off in the first, but they improved as teams will.

“They have made some signings which will potentially change the dynamic of their team, but we hope we improve as we’re off the back of a win [against Bolton].

“We went there [Wycombe] at the back end of last season, and we know this will be a completely different game with how they are going about it, and the players that they have got.

“Mike has changed things over the summer in terms of personnel and in terms of how they want to play and go about it, so we know this will be a challenge, but we’re looking forward to it.

Wycombe and Stockport have played each other 25 times since their first meeting in 1994, with Wanderers earning seven wins, County 10, with there being seven draws.
