Lyall Cameron apologises for Dundee ‘disrespect’ as Rangers star sends message to raging fans

Lyall Cameron has apologised to Dundee fans who felt disrespected by his comments comparing life at Rangers compared to Dens Park.

But he insists he’s not too worried about the blowback as he gets set to face off against his former team.

There was a huge backlash after the BBC social media platforms aired an interview with the new Rangers signing in which he said life at Ibrox was like being a ‘full-time footballer’ after leaving Dundee in the summer.

Many felt disrespected and it may be something of a hostile reception from the away end for Cameron, who starts against his old team at Ibrox this evening.

But he has apologised and says his comments didn’t come across the way they were intended.

He told Premier Sports: “I keep my focus off it, I don’t use twitter or any of that kind of thing.

“Some of the comments I made didn’t go down the way I intended. I’ll always have so much respect for Dundee, I still have loads of friends that work there within the staff and the players. I didn’t want to come across disrespectful, and if I did then I apologise for that.

“But it’s not what I intended. Everyone who knows my character knows I’m not like that. It is what it is but all you can do is move on with it.

“I’m thankful for all the time I had at Dundee, and I’ll never forget it.”

Speaking to the BBC, Cameron had said earlier this week: “It’s a different world here than what I was used to at Dundee. The speed of play and the intensity is totally different. It’s a different world, a different job now that I’m here. It’s like a full-time football player, whereas it’s a bit different in Dundee.

“It took a bit of getting used to, a bit of breaking in, a few niggles here and there because the intensity and demands are so high.

“Every game is so much bigger, the pressure and everything. I just take everything as it comes, I don’t get too involved in anything.

“I just keep myself out of it, give 100 per cent and know I’m doing the best I can do.”
