Where Are They Getting the Money? – Don Goodman Slams Charlton as Norwich Centre-Back Deal Looms
Charlton Athletic’s unexpected summer splash has drawn criticism from Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman, who has openly questioned how the League One side are funding a string of high-profile transfers.
Speaking after reports emerged that Charlton are close to signing a Norwich City centre-back, Goodman didn’t hold back.
> “It’s baffling,” he said. “Kaminski, Bell, and now a centre-half from a Championship club? Where are they getting the money from? Either someone’s opened the chequebook or something doesn’t add up.”
The Addicks have already made waves with the arrivals of Thomas Kaminski and Amari’i Bell, both experienced at Championship and international level. The latest target — believed to be a Norwich defender with top-tier minutes — would mark their third major coup in under three weeks.
Charlton fans, unsurprisingly, weren’t impressed with Goodman’s reaction. Social media erupted with memes and jokes at the pundit’s expense.
One popular post on Charlton Life read: “Don Goodman tears taste better every transfer window.”
Others have defended the club, pointing to smarter recruitment, improved ownership backing, and a focused rebuild under manager Nathan Jones.
> “We’re not doing anything dodgy,” said one club source. “We’re just finally acting like a club with ambition.”
With the new season less than a month away, Charlton’s spending — and Goodman’s disapproval — show no signs of slowing down.
