
“We’re back where we belong” – Kevin Ball reflects on Premier League return
Speaking at the Foundation of Light’s annual fixtures breakfast on Wednesday, Sunderland AFC
icon Kevin Ball offered his opinions on the Lads’ comeback to the Premier League.
Ball, who captained Sunderland during his playing career and is still a well-known representative
of the Club, spoke to a crowded crowd as excitement for the 2025–2026 Premier League season
grows.
Ball emphasised the enthusiasm around the season’s first game, a home matchup against West
Ham United at the Stadium of Light, after the Premier League schedule was formally announced.
“It’s a huge moment to start at home in front of our supporters,” he remarked.
“The tone is set by that first game. The atmosphere will be fantastic, and it will have an impact, as the Stadium of Light is crammed to capacity and season tickets are sold out.
As many of the next generation of fans would be watching Premier League football for the first time, Ball also underlined the significance of interacting with them.
Many youthful supporters will be watching Sunderland in the Premier League for the first time.
