Nottingham Forest’s £30m swoop for Brazilian duo signals start of European adventure
Igor Jesus and Jair Cunha, a Brazilian duo for Botafogo, are on the verge of joining Nottingham
Forest for £30 million.
Cunha, the centre-back, and Jesus, the Brazilian international forward, are anticipated to have
physical examinations later this month, or after Botafogo’s participation in the Club World Cup concludes. In their first group match, Botafogo defeated the Seattle Sounders 2-1, and both goals
were scored.
Important players Neco Williams and Ola Aina are about to sign new contracts, which is another encouragement for manager Nuno Espirito Santo as he gets ready for Forest’s comeback to
European football.
Though negotiations are going well and an agreement is seen as a formality, Williams and Aina
both have one year remaining on their present contracts.
The decision to extend Aina’s contract and offer Wales international Williams better terms is a calculated move meant to keep Nuno’s core group.
After Forest was promoted to the Premier League, Williams was purchased from Liverpool for around £17 million. He has been continuously brilliant, and the most recent season was possibly his finest.
After coming on a free transfer, Aina, the Nigerian international, has also shown great success. He is expected to sign a long-term contract at the City Ground, although he has activated an option to stay for an additional year.
The arrest of Jesus, 24, is considered a significant coup, and Forest is also working on incomings.
