Rangers signs striker Matija Frigan on ‘big stage’, he will move this summer as update emerges
Russell Martin is eager to put his stamp on things at Rangers in preparation for next season.
After a disappointing season at Ibrox, there is plenty of work for the new boss to get done before pre-season gets underway again.
One area where Martin will be looking to add to his options is in the final third, and Matija Frigan could be someone able to solve that problem.
Rangers keen on Frigan
While Hamza Igamane was the emerging star at Rangers this season, the forward saw his game time decrease under Barry Ferguson.
The 22-year-old still has the opportunity to develop further under Martin, but the new manager will want alternative options too.
That’s especially true when you consider what the future holds for Cyriel Dessers.
The 30-year-old did contribute plenty to his side’s efforts, although he has also frustrated fans and is linked with a move away from Ibrox.
Now, it has been reported by Croatian outlet 24 Sata (9 June) that Frigan could be a new option for the Gers.
The 22-year-old registered 15 goal contributions in the Belgian Pro League for Westerlo this season and has caught the eye of the Glasgow club.
Currently, with the under-21 Croatian side ahead of the European Championships, his performances have not gone unnoticed on the “big stage.”
The report states that Rangers are keen on his services but will face competition from Hamburger SV and a La Liga side if they want him.
Although the youngster is under contract in Belgium until 2028, it is reportedly “clear” that the striker will leave his current side this summer to push himself further elsewhere in Europe.
Frigan could be good addition for Martin
Martin has his work cut out for him at Rangers.
Although Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers are upping the level of investment into the squad at Ibrox, given how much work there is to be done, the boss will still have to be shrewd in his business.
Therefore, with strikers the most in-demand players, looking at someone from across Europe who certainly looks like he is on his way up is not a bad idea at all.
It could well be a transformational year in Glasgow, but getting some of the foundations in place this summer will help push Rangers forward.
