Milan Italy— What started as a side hustle in influencer marketing quickly spiraled into something much darker for 26-year-old Ava Martin. Once a rising figure on social media known for her fitness content and body-positive messaging, Ava now finds herself at the center of an international investigation involving deceptive adult advertising, digital identity theft, and a sprawling network of shady online affiliates.
The Rise
Ava’s Instagram following exploded during the pandemic, where she posted home workout routines and mental health tips. Brands reached out for sponsorships, and by mid-2022, she was making a full-time income from affiliate marketing and brand partnerships.
“I was just happy to be independent,” Ava told The Sentinel in an exclusive interview. “I had no idea what I was really signing up for.”
In late 2023, she was approached by a marketing agency that claimed to specialize in “high-conversion ad campaigns” and offered her a lucrative contract: lend her likeness for video ads and digital promos to drive traffic to adult dating sites. She says she was promised full control over how her content would be used.
