Celtic fans won’t be happy as Steve Clarke explains why Kieran Tierney withdrew from the Scotland squad
Celtic-bound Kieran Tierney has withdrawn from Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad due to injury.
Tierney starred in Scotland’s embarrassing friendly defeat to Iceland on Friday night as the former Arsenal man looked a bit ‘rusty’ ahead of the new season.
The 3-1 defeat was played out in front of a half-empty Hampden but for Celtic fans, it’s the news that Tierney is now injured that will concern them the most.
Due to re-join Brendan Rodgers in the coming weeks, the Celtic manager will be keen to get Tierney back under his wing, especially when he hears the real reason that led to the Scotland left-back’s injury this week.
Celtic-bound Kieran Tierney carried ‘little issues’ into the Scotland camp
Celtic-daft Tierney has a reputation for constantly being injured. But the fact is, the former Emirates man has still featured in plenty of games for Arsenal over his six-year period at the club.
However, it appears that how this current injury developed is no fault of Tierney’s as Scotland boss Steve Clarke delivered the news that every Celtic supporter dreads.
Clarke told PLZ Soccer [1m 15s], “Scott [McTominay] and Kieran both came into camp carrying some little issues over from the season.
“So I think if we had a longer turnaround between the games they might have had a chance but listen, it’s the end of season for those two.
“The most important thing is to have a good rest over the summer and come back flying in the autumn.”
So why then risk him in a meaningless friendly if Tierney was already carrying a problem heading into the national camp?
Thankfully, it doesn’t seem like a serious issue and hopefully the recovery timeline will be quick but this is certainly an update Celtic and Rodgers don’t need heading into the close season.
When Celtic are likely to announce the signing of Kieran Tierney
The summer is going to be a busy one for Celtic. With friendlies against Cork, Newcastle, and the Como Cup all coming up in July, Brendan Rodgers has a lot on his plate in the coming weeks.
But as for the announcement of Tierney, when can fans expect that to happen now that Arsenal fans have said goodbye to him?
The likely date will be the 1st of July. Tierney’s contract with Arsenal doesn’t expire until the 30th of June so Celtic will likely announce his capture as soon as they possibly can.
