Crystal Palace Reach Agreement with Juventus for Defender as Italian Giants Accept Initial Offer

London, June 3, 2025 — In a surprising twist to the summer transfer window, Crystal Palace have reportedly reached an agreement with Italian champions Juventus over the signing of highly-rated defender Daniele Rugani. Sources close to both clubs confirm that Juventus have accepted Crystal Palace’s initial offer, signaling a major coup for the Premier League side.

The deal, believed to be in the region of £13 million, marks a significant statement of intent from Palace as they look to strengthen their backline ahead of the 2025/26 season. Rugani, 30, had one year remaining on his contract with the Bianconeri and had been the subject of interest from several European clubs, including Lyon and Villarreal.

Palace’s sporting director Dougie Freedman is said to have moved swiftly following positive scouting reports, with negotiations wrapped up within 48 hours. The Italian international is expected to undergo a medical in London later this week before penning a three-year deal at Selhurst Park.

Juventus, who secured their 38th Scudetto last season, have been looking to offload fringe players as part of a summer reshuffle under manager Thiago Motta. Rugani, despite his reliability, struggled for consistent game time, making just 12 league appearances.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is reportedly “thrilled” with the development and sees Rugani as a leader both on and off the pitch. The move could also spark further defensive reinforcements, with Palace linked to multiple Serie A talents in recent weeks.
