
Charlton Athletic Identify Defensive Duo from Shamrock Rovers and Dundee United as Transfer Targets
Charlton Athletic have stepped up their summer recruitment drive by identifying two defensive targets from Shamrock Rovers and Dundee United, sources close to the club have revealed.
The League One side are reportedly monitoring Shamrock Rovers’ highly-rated centre-back Liam Byrne and Dundee United’s versatile full-back Callum Fraser as they look to bolster their backline ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Manager Nathan Jones is said to be keen on adding defensive depth and sees both players as ideal fits for Charlton’s high-pressing system. Talks are understood to be in the early stages, with scouts having watched the duo in recent fixtures.
Byrne, 22, has impressed in the League of Ireland with his composure on the ball and leadership qualities, while Fraser, 24, was a standout performer in the Scottish Championship, helping Dundee United to a top-four finish.
Charlton are expected to face competition for both players, but sources suggest the club is confident of landing at least one of their targets before pre-season begins.
