Leeds United set eight-figure price tag for youngster as interest ramps up
Daniel Farke will have to do well in keeping the youngsters of his squad as they’re in high demand.
Farke will know that Leeds’ future is pivotal to the 49ers’ five-year plan to achieve Premier League consistency.
So by retaining the higher potential stars in the squad, it can pay off for their long-term project.
The club won’t want another situation where they sell an Archie Gray for £40m, and this is why it is vital they remain in the top flight.
However, one player is gaining a lot of interest, and now if the right offer arrives, he could leave Elland Road.
Leeds United set price-tag for Mateo Joseph
Mateo Joseph has now been with the Whites for four seasons, showing despite being 21, he’s got experience around the club.
The young Spaniard hasn’t set the world alight since his move from Espanyol in 2022 and has been left in the dark by Farke.
Despite his lack of game time Joseph is supposedly a ‘very high-level’ talent, but he’s yet to show that to the fullest of his tenure so far.
His future has looked fairly uncertain. With Joel Piroe as the main man, Joseph might feel he doesn’t want another season of being second place.
This became apparent in January as Joseph almost joined Real Betis for £8m, as the Spanish club have now emerged again.
According to El Pelotazo, Betis are keen to spark their interest in the summer again but Leeds are only willing to sell Joseph for around £11m to £12.75m.
Leeds should be satisfied with £12.75m for Joseph
With the striker arriving for free in 2022, not much was expected straight away from him.
However, with him being a key member of the squad now, Farke might have to consider the possibility of letting him go if he isn’t up to Premier League standard.
Going off this season, that appears to be the case, and despite Farke calling Joseph ‘important’, he’s hardly played and it’s not reflected well on his numbers this season.
Joseph’s statistics in the Championship for Leeds (24/25) | |
Games played | 38 |
Goals | 3 |
Assists | 3 |
Expected goals (xG) | 5.10 |
Dribble success % | 42.3% |
It’s looking more and more likely that an exit could happen as even though Joseph didn’t push for the Betis move, he could have a different stance this summer.
Farke will no doubt be bringing in a new number nine to top that off as well, so the end could be near for Joseph’s time in Yorkshire.
