Watford ‘parking ticket stunt’ causes motorists’ ‘panic’
After provoking “panic” among drivers who believed they had been given a parking charge, a Watford company’s new marketing ploy has
become contentious.
Sarah Fordham noticed what seemed to be a penalty charge notice (PCN) on her car window when she was gazing out of her bedroom
window.
After quickly getting ready and going to investigate, the 53-year-old discovered it was a flyer for The Property Twins, a Queens Road real
estate firm, that had been placed in the window to mimic a genuine ticket.
Sarah Fordham noticed what seemed to be a penalty charge notice (PCN) on her car window when she was gazing out of her bedroom
window.
“I panicked immediately because I thought ‘what if I haven’t renewed my residents parking permit?’,” the Watford Fields resident said.
“I was relieved it wasn’t a PCN because of the panic, but I was also rather irritated. That kind of item on my automobile is not something I
really desire. I don’t want my automobile to be touched. If it’s the cops or a warden, it’s a different story.”
Although the “PCNs” state that they are neither actual penalty charges or connected to Watford Borough Council, detractors pointed out
that this is only evident upon close inspection.
After having to pull over because he didn’t see the flier until after he had already left and believed it to be authentic, Stephen Danzig said
he was “really angry.”
It’s an excellent marketing effort, according to a Property Twins representative. We had it examined by several solicitors, and everything
is fine.
According to Property Twins, a number of people have contacted them regarding properties because of this, stating that they found it to
be a “amazing” idea.
The company’s Instagram page now features videos of the staff putting the notifications on autos.
A unique approach to advertising is part of the company’s plan to stand out, which they claim is required in a competitive industry, but
the representative emphasised that the company never intended to cause people any concern.
