‘I’M HERE TO TRY AND WIN EVERYTHING,’ £11m CELT REVEALS AMBITION

Since joining Celtic in August of last year for a record £11 million, Arne Engels’ football career has taken a total turn for the worse.

The smooth Belgium international midfielder went from surviving at Augsburg, a Bundesliga team, to winning a trophy at Brendan

Rodgers’ winners.

When the Hoops defeated Philippe Clement’s Ibrox team 5–4 on penalties in the Premier Sports League Cup Final at Hampdem in mid-

December, Engels won his first medal as a professional football player.

Just a few days after joining, the elegant playmaker made his debut as a Celtic in September when he replaced Paulo Bernardo in the 62nd

minute of the champions’ 3-0 thumping at Parkhead.

And Engels took his place in the victory parade when the Hoops overcame Dundee United 5-0 at Tannadice on Saturday to lifted his first

title in the club’s fourth consecutive Premiership success.

The 21-year-old middle-of-the-park performer was delighted with the crowning glory and said: “It’s an amazing feeling. It’s my first and I

cannot wait to get other ones.

“It’s like a bit of a drug that you want to achieve so much and win so much.

“I’m here to try and win EVERYTHING. That’s also a different mindset than I had maybe in Augsburg. It wasn’t really about winning

everything, but not really losing.

“Here it’s totally different. You’re expected to win and that’s a nice feeling for me because I already had that mindset.

“It was easy for me to come in here and get on track with the boys and do the same things that they also did already last year.”

For the international with four caps, things haven’t gone as planned. When he returns to Ibrox for Sunday’s High Noon match, he won’t

likely forget how the stadium was introduced to him in the opening match of 2025.

Late in the game, while he was near the touchline, a thug threw a missile in his face, causing a passive Hoops team to lose 3-0.

After Celtic’s 3-2 loss at Parkhead last month, Engels is now anticipating their attempt to regain their dominance in the match.

“We want to win every game, not just the Rangers game,” the smooth operator added in an interview with The Herald. You can’t be

champions otherwise.

“Of course, it’s a big game and it is big also for us because we lost the last two.

“Everybody was really disappointed about those two games so it’s up to us to now take revenge.”

Engels has also been nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award alongside Lennon Miller (Motherwell), James

Wilson (Hearts) and Hamza Igamane (Rangers).

“I’m trying to get better every day, so it would be a great feeling to get rewarded for it,” he continued. “Everyone wants that.”

However, that isn’t the primary objective. All the trophies are the primary objective.

“We want to finish the league with a strong finish, and we still have one game left to play for.”

Engels’ first season with Scotland’s 55-time champions will come to an end on Saturday, May 24, when Rodgers’ team plays Aberdeen in

the Scottish Cup Final at the national stadium.

Engels is prepared to contribute as the Hoops approach their sixth treble in nine incredible years.
