‘Did really well’ – Stoke City man hailed by Mark Robins after Cardiff City win

Stoke City striker Sam Gallagher did ‘really well’ against Cardiff City in their last Championship outing, according to his manager Mark Robins.

Stoke City brought on the attacker for Ali Al-Hamadi during their clash at the Cardiff City Stadium. SCFC ended up winning the game 1-0 in Wales to boost their survival hopes.

The Potters are now sat in 18th place in the table with only four fixtures left to play before the end of the season. They are five points above the drop zone.

Speaking after their valuable win over the Bluebirds, Robins said in an interview with BBC Radio Stoke (via StokeOnTrentLive): “You saw what everyone was like in the stadium. It was all on edge and you’ve got to understand that. Gally came on and did really well. Ali had run about, there’s no two ways about it, he’s not done anything particularly wrong. That was the reason behind it. It was about making sure we came through and put them under some pressure in the second half that we needed.”

The Staffordshire outfit are back in action at home on Friday against Sheffield Wednesday to kick-start the Easter weekend. They then lock horns with Leeds United away on Monday.

Stoke City striker Sam Gallagher praised

Stoke City signed Gallagher last summer to boost their attacking department. He gives them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch.

He is an experienced operator in the Football League and provides a real threat with his height. The ex-England youth international was handed a contract until June 2027 when he joined his current club.

Gallagher has made 19 appearances in the league so far in this campaign and he has found the net on three occasions. He had some injury issues earlier this term but is now back fit and helping the Potters try and preserve their status in the second tier.

Will Stoke City stay up?

Stoke City’s fate is in their own hands as they seek to avoid slipping into League One. Their three points against Cardiff City should give them confidence as they gear up to play Sheffield Wednesday next later this week.

Gallagher will be hoping to score more goals for the Potters next season. Robins appears to be a fan of the player and he will be eager to show more of what he can do over the course of the next four games.

Robins has a big decision to make about whether to play the former Southampton or Blackburn Rovers man from the off against the Owls or go with Al-Hamadi again.
