Vaclav Cerny to join Rangers as O’Rourke updates on permanent deal

Rangers’ new owners will jump at the opportunity to sign Vaclav Cerny permanently from Wolfsburg this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Cerny has arguably been the Bears’ standout player this season with 17 goals and seven assists in all competitions for Rangers, who hope that his stellar campaign will be the first of many to come at Ibrox.

The Czech international is one of four players on a season-long loan at Ibrox, but compared to Cerny, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, Rafael Fernandes and Oscar Cortes have made next to no impact whatsoever.

Of that quartet, sources have told Football Insider that Rangers’ incoming owners 49ers Enterprises would “love” to make Cerny’s loan spell from Wolfsburg permanent, and they’re in pole position to do so.

Rangers make Vaclav Cerny their transfer priority

Sources have told Football Insider that 49ers Enterprises plan on making at least six headline signings at Rangers this summer, and there’s little doubt that Cerny will be at the very top of their shortlist.

Cerny’s fellow loanees Kasanwirjo, Fernandes and Cortes all face much more uncertain futures, albeit the latter’s loan deal from Lens includes a £4million option to buy after Rangers held talks last May.

However, Football Insider revealed on 31 March that Cerny’s loan deal also includes a £5.5million buy option, which expires at the end of May, leaving Rangers in a race against time to get the transfer over the line.

Cerny to spearhead Rangers’ summer signing spree

In order to facilitate a significant summer of transfer spending, Football Insider revealed last month that 49ers Enterprises will give Rangers’ new manager a £20–£25million budget, whoever that manager may be.

Sources have told Football Insider that Barry Ferguson is unlikely to be given the job permanently unless he steers Rangers to the Europa League title, with their decision set to be announced at the end of the season.

Football Insider revealed on 29 March that Rangers are an outside bet in the race to sign Motherwell’s Lennon Miller this summer, but such significant funds and having Cerny’s signature in the bag could still change that narrative.
