Derby County advantage spelled out as ‘massive’ Luton Town statement made
Derby County have “real momentum” in their Championship survival bid, says Kane Wilson.
The Rams were disappointed to concede a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Portsmouth on Saturday, but John Eustace’s side have only lost one of their last seven league matches, winning four times and drawing twice.
They are one point above the relegation zone in 21st place ahead of another huge match, against Luton Town at Pride Park on Friday (12:30pm), with the Hatters two places and three points below Derby.
“I feel like we’ve got real momentum,” said Wilson.
“We haven’t lost today (against Portsmouth) and we are two unbeaten.
“It would be amazing if we could back it up now, going into Luton. Obviously, we have to keep pushing to stay in this division.”
“It’s a massive game,” he added, looking ahead to facing Luton.
“Pride Park is always to our advantage, and we’ve seen that so many times this year, especially since the gaffer has come in. He’s tried to make that a fortress, and we have to use it to our advantage.”
Derby led Portsmouth 2-1 until injury time, and Wilson said: “It’s a good point, but it feels like two points dropped if I’m being honest.
“We were in a winning position, and then to concede after that, it hurts. It’s one of those things, we’ve got to pick ourselves up and go again. It’s a point gained and not three points lost.
“The gaffer expressed to us then how he felt we played well and gave a really good, valiant effort, but they were two rubbish goals to give away, if I’m being honest.
“The set-piece and then a long ball into our box that just gets flicked; it’s never how you want to concede.
“It’s disappointing, but we’ve got to pick ourselves up for a massive game against Luton now. I felt like we had so many good chances that we could have scored from today.
“I can’t think of too many where I felt like Pompey should have scored, other than the penalty they missed, which was a great save from Jacob. On the face of it now, it feels like three points dropped today – but it might be crucial come the end of the season.”
