Michael Carrick on Josh Coburn, a loanee from Millwall to Middlesbrough
There was Bristol City scoring deep in stoppage time to beat West Brom and Coventry City doing
the same against Portsmouth 24 hours later.
But there was another strike that also had a major impact on the Championship play-off picture.
It was a Boro player who scored it but for the side they’ll face today.
Josh Coburn’s winner at Sheffield United on Tuesday night hauled Millwall back into the play-off picture,
setting up what is a huge game for both sides at the Den this afternoon.
The Lions are now just three points behind Boro have won three of their last four games – and Coburn has been key.
The Middlesbrough loanee has scored three goals in his last eight games and secured a spot in Alex Neil’s
squad after an injury interrupted the first half of the season. Millwall was eager to make
Coburn’s loan deal permanent in January and will undoubtedly be eager to complete a deal in the summer,
but those negotiations will have to wait; for the time being, the focus on Teesside and in south London
is solely on the remaining five games and, for both, trying to set up three more.
However, Coburn will not be playing against his old team this afternoon.
