‘Huge implications’ – Cardiff City vs Stoke City ‘new’ kick-off time, prediction team news, lineups

Stoke City make the trip to South Wales this weekend to play a huge relegation six-pointer against Cardiff City.

Stoke City have had yet another season to forget in the Championship. They face a fight against relegation in the final five games as SCFC currently sit just two points above the drop zone.

The Potters face a tough run-in too with Sheffield United and Leeds United still to play. However, their most important games come against Derby County, and Cardiff City on Saturday.

In midweek, Stoke City looked set to secure a massive three points against Luton Town. However, a late Millenic Alli equaliser meant SCFC dropped two vital points.

Their opponents Cardiff City are the side currently occupying 22nd spot in the Championship. A win for the Welsh side would see them leapfrog Stoke City in the table.

Cardiff are unbeaten in their last four games but have not seen much progress in the table. They have drawn their last three frustratingly for Omer Riza’s side.

In midweek, they secured what could be a vital point as they drew 2-2 with Preston. Will Alves scored a 94th-minute equaliser for the Bluebirds at Deepdale.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Charlie Hodgson

“What an absolutely massive game this is. Both sides cannot afford to lose but at the same time, a draw does not do much for them.

“Stoke City’s away form is not great however, Cardiff City have the third worst home form in the division. It is a very tough game to call with neither side looking a clear favourite.

“With that said I cannot see a winner in this one. I think it will end up being a particularly end-to-end game, but one that neither side takes control of.”

Prediction: Cardiff City 1-1 Stoke City

James Ray

“This is an absolutely massive game in the Championship relegation fight.

“Cardiff City salvaged a point at the death in the week while Stoke City saw a win snatched away from them. Both will be looking for nothing less than the win here though, and in that fight, I have to lean towards SCFC.

“That last-gasp Yakou Meite equaliser might just kick a bit of life into the Bluebirds again but I think the Potters have shown more fight and on the whole, there is more quality to get out of their team.

“I think that shows here just about in a result that could have huge implications in the relegation picture.”

Prediction: Cardiff City 0-1 Stoke City
