Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Brennan Johnson’s absence from the Tottenham XI at times recently has been part of a strategy of welcoming back injured players. The Spurs winger was in the headlines

last Sunday after scoring a double in the team’s 3-1 win over Southampton.

Johnson came into the team for the home match against Saints after taking his place on

the bench at Chelsea three days earlier as Wilson Odobert started.

The French ace has had a decent run in the team over the past month or so and contributed with two crucial goals in Spurs’ 3-1 victory against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League round of 16.

“With Brennan, part of the strategy heading into this was we had quite a few players who were coming back from long-term injuries including Wilson, Destiny, Micky van de Ven, Romero.
I could keep going on,” admitted the Australian. “We had to use games where we needed those guys to play because otherwise if I kept playing Brennan we would be at a point now where Wilson, Destiny, these guys would have had no game time and we may need them.
