Boniface kehrt nach Trainingsausfall zum Leverkusen-Spiel am Wochenende zurück

Super Eagles and Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker, Victor Okoh Boniface, is set to return for Leverkusen’s weekend clash against Union Berlin on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 24-year-old’s form for Die Werkself this season has dwindled in comparison to his debut campaign, where he was firing on all fronts. This is largely due to injuries and fitness issues.

Boniface missed Leverkusen’s training session yesterday due to an unnamed illness, as per Werkself Xtra, but he’s expected to be fully fit when his side takes on Union Berlin on Saturday.

Boniface has scored eight goals and provided just one assist in 17 games for Xabi Alonso’s side this season, which is a drop-off from the 14 goals and eight assists in 23 games he bagged in the previous campaign.

All round, Leverkusen have dropped off from their incredible form last season. They’re out of the UEFA Champions League and were knocked out of the DFB Pokal by third-tier German side, Arminia Bielefield.

In the league however, Leverkusen are just six points behind league leaders, Bayern Munich with six league games left to play.

While Bayern are still active in Europe, Xabi Alonso’s side will want to take advantage of any points dropped by the Bavarians so as to capitalize and move towards a potential Meisterchale triumph.
