Mamelodi-Sundowns with point deduction following CAF Disciplinary Committee’s final Review on Loftus Violence – Reports

The disruptive behavior that occurred during yesterday’s (April 1) CAF Champions League quarterfinal encounter against Espérance de Tunis at Loftus Versfeld Stadium severely saddens Mamelodi Sundowns.

Social media videos show the stadium being maliciously damaged and the Mamelodi Sundowns fans fleeing violent actions that were started against them,

including the use of pepper spray and flares at the beginning of the event.

Sundowns is dedicated to working with CAF to complete its inquiry before the return leg and is awaiting a comprehensive report from the Match Commissioner.

After reviewing all the evidence,

we have faith that our brothers and sisters at Espérance de Tunis,

a reputable sports organization in Africa,

will condemn this behavior as well and take the required actions to guarantee that all fans feel safe and welcome at the next match.

We have faith that the inquiry will reveal the events leading up to the disruptive behavior.

Although the videos and facts show that the Sundowns supporters did not start the unruly behavior,

we still have to apologize to Espérance de Tunis and its supporters in accordance with our African culture of empathy and compassion,

also known as Ubuntu, because the unruly behavior occurred at our home stadium.
